Though this work sample is 15 years old, it remains one of my proudest career highlights.
I was an intern at The Daily Herald, one of Chicago’s largest suburban newspapers, and I not only pitched this story to my editor, but also landed it as an A-1 centerpiece on all editions.
I'm ever so grateful for the Devereaux family for letting me into their home and sharing their story. I'm also thankful for my sister. If she hadn't been dating her neighbor, I'm not sure I would have heard about this amazing act of kindness. Good people do exist.
